spin station

Fall 2024

Spin Station is a versatile motorized rotating platform designed to display various objects, from 3D-printed busts to decorative items, in a visually engaging way. The project involved designing a custom 3D-printed base, integrating a DC motor, a 555 timer, and a CD4017 decade counter, allowing for CW or CCW rotation as well as multiple speed and lighting settings. The design emphasizes smooth, consistent rotation to enhance the presentation of any object placed on it.

A deliberate design choice was made to use the 555 timer and CD4017 instead of a microcontroller, focusing on simplicity, reliability, and efficiency (and also happens to be cheaper). This approach provided a robust, easy-to-understand circuit without the need for programming, showcasing traditional circuit design skills. Spin Station serves as a demonstration of my technical prowess in electronics, 3D modeling, and problem-solving.
